Perry High School Prolongs 25+ Year Partnership With FieldTurf: Trust, Safety And Performance Weigh The Scales

Perry High School installed their previous FieldTurf surfaces in 1993, 2005 and now, after over 25 years of combined play on FieldTurf, the Pirates are resurfacing with an upgraded FieldTurf system. Program officials opted to join a growing number of facilities whom are recycling a portion of the current infill into their new surface. The Ohio high school announced that the new multi-purpose sports field will feature the latest in synthetic turf innovation: FieldTurf CORE. The new multi-layer dual-polymer technology is designed to deliver the highest fiber performance and resiliency available on the market.

“This is our third field installation with FieldTurf, the first one was in 1993, we were probably one of the earliest adopters.” said TJ Rockwell, Athletic Director, Perry High School, adding “We like being ahead of the curve and this is the latest and greatest. One of our coaches has a friend in the athletic department at Rutgers University and they loved their new field with the CORE fibers so much that we needed to try it out for ourselves. Our stadium’s been a big home field advantage for us with the turf and we’re looking forward to showing off our new field next season.”

CORE: THE WORLD’S FIRST SUPER FIBER

Built from FieldTurf’s 20+ years of industry-leading innovation and unmatched expertise, CORE, the first multi-layer dual-polymer fiber ever, rewrites the playbook for sports turf, reinvents the playing field, and redefines the player experience. Engineered for elite level facilities, CORE is designed to deliver a more realistic, textured, grass-like shape with optimal durability and resiliency.

CORE’s performance and safety is backed by multiple independent certified sources. Labosport, a global leader in sport surface certification, tested CORE using the rigorous Fiber Performance Index — which measures durability, resilience and softness. The surface emerged with Labosport’s highest-ever Fiber Performance Index score of 89. The system was tested to 200,000 cycles on the fiber wear test by Penn State’s Center for Sports Surface Research and meets FIFA Quality Pro and World Rugby certifications. Unlike imitation blended polymer fibers, CORE backs its performance with results.

BUILT FOR PLAYER SAFETY

You can't stop injuries but you can limit them. Keeping athletes safe has and will always be FieldTurf’s first priority. Every day, FieldTurf pushes the boundaries of research and innovation to engineer the most advanced artificial turf systems in the industry. While no sport can ever be completely injury-free, FieldTurf continues to find new ways to reduce the risk and severity of injuries.

Perry High School’s new field will features FieldTurf’s heavyweight 3-layer infill system which has showcased a significant lower incidence of injuries per recent research by Michael C. Meyers, professor in Idaho State University’s Department of Sport Science and Physical Education.

Systems with >9 lbs. per square foot of infill compared to all other infill weight surfaces led to:

  • 19%-29% lower incidence of total injuries
  • 35%-55% lower incidence of substantial injuries
