Annual ceremony will recognize a record number of football coaches from across the U.S.
The 30th Annual Broyles Award is once again taking over the Oaklawn Hot Springs in Arkansas (Feb.12-13), continuing a tradition of honoring the nation’s best assistant coaches in college football. The event also marks the continuation of a partnership that began almost five years ago when FieldTurf became the presenting sponsor of the corresponding High School Broyles Award, which was first introduced in 2019.
For FieldTurf, partnering with the High School Broyles Award (HSBA) reflects an enduring commitment to youth athletics and admiration for those who support student-athletes pursuing excellence both on and off the field. For assistant coaches, accolades celebrating their passion and dedication can be rare, making this recognition even more important.
As a supplier of synthetic turf systems used on countless high school fields across the country, FieldTurf values the building of lasting relationships with athletic programs and the people who run them. That familiarity makes our collaboration with the HSBA even more personal and something in which we take great pride.
“Working with the High School Broyles Award and seeing its prominence grow over the years has been an enriching experience,” says Jamie MacDonald, Senior Vice-President of Sales, Tarkett Sports. “This year’s event is bigger than ever, and more coaches are getting the acknowledgement they so richly deserve, which is what this initiative is all about. It’s a privilege that FieldTurf can be part of it.”
Created in 1996, the Broyles Award recognizes the legendary Coach Frank Broyles and his legacy of selecting and developing great assistants during his almost two decades as head coach at the University of Arkansas (1958–1976). Broyles amassed 144 victories at Arkansas, a record for the most by a Razorbacks HC, leading to his 1983 induction into the College Football Hall of Fame.
The inaugural Broyles Award for college football was bestowed upon Micky Andrews, Florida State University’s long-time defensive coordinator. Twenty-two years later, the HSBA was created with its first edition awarding assistant coaches from high schools in Alabama (Bert Newton), Arkansas (Doc Crowley), and Texas (Casey Pearce).
By 2021, FieldTurf’s first year as the presenting sponsor, the number of honorees had risen to six, with Louisiana, Oklahoma, and Tennessee joining the original three. The HSBA became a true coast-to-coast affair in 2022, with assistant coaches from 19 states recognized, including those from Alaska, California, Florida, Hawaii, North Carolina, and Oregon. That growth has continued, with coaches from 42 states to be honored this year.
Fittingly, the largest award total to date coincides with the HSBA’s 5th Annual Ring Ceremony. The anniversary underscores the status the event has achieved as a highly anticipated gathering of talent, deserving of its own showcase. FieldTurf looks forward to continuing to be part of the High School Broyles Award as its reputation rises and the number of participating states increases.
