Golden Eagles Baseball Prepares for New Nest

Pete Taylor Park, home of the Southern Mississippi Golden Eagles’ baseball program will undergo a major overhaul just in time for the 2020 season. Officials opted to convert the natural grass surface to FieldTurf’s NEW DoublePlay Series. The move is a significant investment to the program and commitment to its student-athletes.

“When we decided to make the move to artificial turf, we explored several suppliers which all had competitive products. As we moved forward with the process, two things quickly came clear with FieldTurf – They invest in the science behind their products and they truly care about their clients.” Said Scott Berry, Head Coach, the University of Southern Mississippi. “Not only did we want a system that would perform but we wanted a company that was going to be there when we needed them. For us, FieldTurf rang true in both categories. Every coach we spoke to echoed similar feelings, making the decision clear for us. I’m very excited about partnering with FieldTurf and Sports Contractors Unlimited, LLC for our project.”

TECHNOLOGY MEETS BASEBALL

The FieldTurf DoublePlay Series was built around science. Through the use of advanced high-tech motion video cameras, findings were translated into real-life data. Over 300 research-hours, 300 videos and 70,000 pictures were analyzed to help design the new system. Never before has there been a way to build a baseball field with such precision. Using the three critical performance criteria - SPEED, LINE & BOUNCE – A field can be built to play fast or to play like a natural surface.

FieldTurf’s NEW DoublePlay Series is gaining rapid popularity amongst collegiate baseball programs showcased by installations at the University of Tennessee, Rutgers University and now the University of Southern Mississippi. FieldTurf has long been a trusted name is baseball with installations at Oregon State, Oregon, Texas, Texas Tech, Washington and over 1000 more.
