Gators Stay Out of the Rain and Move Indoors

Cancelled practices will be a thing of the past for the Florida Gators. The university recently completed the construction of their new indoor facility. The project was finalized in early September, and is valued at over 15 million dollars. Plagued by poor weather and scorching heat at fall camp in years past, the construction of an indoor facility was a top priority for the University of Florida. Totaling at over 95K sq. ft., the facility was modeled after Ben Hill Griffin Stadium, better known as “The Swamp”, to replicate home field gameplay.

For their new field, UF opted for FieldTurf’s Classic HD system, renowned for durability, performance and proven safety. The Classic HD slit-film fiber combines the durability of slit-film yarns with an upgraded production process to deliver the perfect combination of durability and softness. Its unique extrusion and inline precision cutter eliminates excess splitting, for longer-lasting performance and softness. It virtually eliminates any “edge decay” that exists on other artificial turf fibers. Learn more Here.

“FieldTurf is the industry leader and, after speaking with peer institutions who had used the product, we decided this was the perfect fit for our new indoor football practice facility. We are very excited to have FieldTurf in our new facility. The combination of look, feel and performance was the reason we chose this product” said Chip Howard, Executive Associate Athletic Director at the University of Florida.

“We are excited to have the University of Florida join the FieldTurf family” said FieldTurf President Eric Daliere. “We are proud to be able to provide the Gators with an innovative, durable and high-performance field.”

In addition to the Gators, FieldTurf is the surface of elite NCAA programs such as Florida State, Central Florida, Florida International, Ohio State, Oregon, Oregon State, West Virginia, Texas, Texas Tech and Syracuse.

From now on, when the rain hits, the Gators can now move indoors.
