Providence Park's New FieldTurf Surface Recieves FIFA 2-Star Certification

PORTLAND, OR (July 23, 2014) – Formerly named Jeld-Wen Field; Providence Park’s new FieldTurf surface has earned FIFA 2-Star recommended status. This marks the only FIFA recommended field in the state of Oregon. The home of the Portland Timbers have been playing on top level FIFA certification as the previous FieldTurf surface achieved FIFA 2-Star status three consecutive times.

"We believe to have the absolute best artificial surface for pro soccer here at Providence Park,” said Merritt Paulson, CEO of the Portland Timbers. “We are thankful that FieldTurf continues to provide such high quality surfaces and works hard to create an exceptional product.”

“We are proud to see that Providence Park’s surface has yet again received the highest level of certification from FIFA,” said FieldTurf President Eric Daliere. “Our turf is designed to outclass the most rigorous testing and has proven to be ideal for the sport of soccer.”

The FIFA Recommended 2-Star designation is the highest synthetic turf rating from FIFA and is issued after a battery of tests are performed by a FIFA approved testing agent. FIFA final round competitions and top UEFA competitions have the FIFA Recommended 2-Star in their respective competition regulations.

In addition to being the home of the Portland Timbers (MLS), the Portland State Vikings football team also calls Providence Park home. The venue also hosts a variety of sporting and non-sporting events, including various league championships.
