Tarkett Sports Leading Construction of Midland’s Massive, 62-Field Soccer Complex

State-of-the-art Beal Park facility will leverage Tarkett Sports’ construction expertise and FieldTurf artificial turf

Tarkett Sports, a global leader in sports surfacing and construction, will lead the building of the new ExxonMobil Soccer Complex at Beal Park in Midland, Texas. The initiative’s significance was on full display at its groundbreaking on Feb.12, where city officials and community leaders gathered to launch an initiative that will establish Midland as a top destination for sports and recreation.

For Tarkett Sports, the multi-phase project, which encompasses 62 soccer fields of various sizes, a splash park, and other amenities, will showcase its turnkey design and construction capabilities.

The facility will feature four artificial turf fields from FieldTurf, a global leader in synthetic turf and a FIFA Preferred Provider. FieldTurf is the trusted choice at all levels of play and is the surface of choice for every MLS - Major League Soccer club competing on artificial turf.

The grass fields at ExxonMobil Soccer Complex will also feature new lighting and irrigation systems.

The project will bring the total number of FieldTurf fields in Midland to over two dozen, highlighting the trust that the company has fostered in a city where it completed its first installation in 2016. FieldTurf’s projects in Midland have spanned Beal Park, Hogan Park, Reyes-Mashburn-Nelms Baseball Field, and Scharbauer Sports Complex. In 2022, the latter venue had FieldTurf CoolPlay installed at the 15,000-seat Astound Broadband Stadium and each of its four auxiliary fields.

FieldTurf’s enduring relationship with Midland also reflects the extent to which the company has prioritized its presence in Texas, highlighted by its offices in Georgetown and Burleson. The local team has overseen projects at the University of Texas, University of North Texas, Trinity University, Celina High School, and Alvin Independent School District, to name a few.

Changing the Game for Midland Soccer

The ExxonMobil Soccer Complex will arrive in three phases. Phase 1 of the renovation project is expected to be completed by the end of 2025, and plans for Phases 2 and 3 are expected to be completed by the end of July 2025. Phase 2 is scheduled to begin in early 2026, and completion is expected by the end of 2027. Phase 3 will begin in early 2028; completion is expected in September 2028.

The facility will be a game-changer for the surrounding community and allow Midland to host soccer tournaments. In addition, it will keep games for the Midland Soccer Association, which serves around 300 teams and over 3,200 players each season, at one site.

Dunaway, a professional services firm that supports clients across Texas, has also been instrumental in making the project at Beal Park a reality. Their multi-disciplinary team led in the planning and design of all three phases.

“Investing in our parks and recreational spaces is essential to building a thriving community, and Beal Park will provide new opportunities for sports, outdoor activities, and gathering spaces that benefit everyone,” Mayor Lori Blong said in a statement. “We are grateful for the collaboration that made this project possible and look forward to seeing the positive impact it will have on Midland.”

"Our family's been here for five generations. Had 100 members basically call Midland home," said Barry Beal, Jr., who represented the Beal Foundation at the groundbreaking ceremony. "And so, we're so grateful that these projects are happening and improving the quality of life."
