New FieldTurf Classic HD Part of Camp Randall Stadium Renovations at Wisconsin

The University of Wisconsin’s Camp Randall Stadium is undergoing a comprehensive renovation of its south end zone.

Construction began in November 2021 on the $77.6 million “CR Future” project, which is anchored by a new FieldTurf Classic HD playing surface that will replace a previous FieldTurf surface installed in 2013. FieldTurf has been the artificial turf of choice at the University of Wisconsin for over 20 years.

Other improvements will include updates to the press box and the addition of 2,300 premium seats in the form of indoor club spaces, small loge boxes and rows of chairback seating. The south end zone previously featured bleacher seating for 6,000 fans.

University officials say the project will be completed in time for the Badgers’ 2022 season-opener.

“To celebrate a 20-year history with the University of Wisconsin is a great honor” Said Eric Daliere, President – Tarkett North America & Tarkett Sports. “It’s a true testament to our team’s unwavering dedication to quality and innovation. We’re proud to deliver a new surface for the Badgers and continue to cheer them on.”

Classic HD boasts FieldTurf’s leading slit-film fiber, which has been meticulously crafted to maximize durability and safety while also delivering leading aesthetic appeal. With thousands of installations, Classic HD has earned its reputation as one of the most trusted in North America.

In the NCAA, over 1500 programs trust FieldTurf of which includes powerhouse football programs Wisconsin, Michigan, Notre Dame, and Oregon to name a few. In the Big Ten Conference, FieldTurf is the home surface of 9 of the 14 programs.

In the NFL, FieldTurf is the trusted choice of 11 teams. The Falcons, Giants, Jets, Lions, Panthers, Patriots and Seahawks both play and practice on FieldTurf while the Buccaneers, Eagles, Packers, Steelers, practice on FieldTurf. The Giants, Jets and Lions have also trusted Classic HD as their system of choice.

The “CR Future” project was supposed to begin in 2020, but UW officials cited scheduling challenges during the pandemic for the temporary delay. Most of the renovation is expected to take place during spring and summer of 2022.
