How To Prepare For Spring Sports

With an added demand for field usage in early spring, this guide will help you effectively prepare for the upcoming spring sports season. To allow your field to perform at its best come spring, it’s key to effectively clear snow during the winter, plan for an indoor option in case of extended cold weather and schedule a field opening maintenance session.

If you need help with snow removal or opening maintenance, our team can help! Speak to an expert here.

Let’s get your field ready for spring:

STEP ONE: CLEAR SNOW DURING WINTER

Periodically clearing snow from your field will help prevent the buildup of ice. Proper clearing of the field during the winter months will lead to earlier use in the spring.

The components that make up your FieldTurf system themselves don’t freeze, but the moisture that seeps into the infill can. This creates ideal conditions for you to plow without or removing too much infill.

RECOMMENDED GUIDELINES

  • Only plow when the temperature is below freezing (25F/-5C)
  • Leave a thin layer of snow on the surface
  • Plow early in the morning or late in evening
  • Start by plowing off the area of play to test equipment

DO NOT use non-approved melting compounds (Sodium Chloride). Be sure to test all de-icers off the field of play prior to application. Improper use of melting compounds could affect your field warranty. Confirm application with your FieldTurf expert prior to usage.
