In late 2017, the City of Joliet announced plans for major renovations to Joliet Route 66 Stadium, showcasing a conversion from their grass surface to FieldTurf. The facility will serve as home field for Minor League baseball team, the Joliet Slammers, the University of St. Francis baseball program and the residents of the City of Joliet.
The new synthetic turf system offers the community and various programs an all-weather surface with proven quality and leading performance. Along with reduced maintenance, the new surface allows for increased field usage and long-term cost savings compared to natural grass.
“Our old grass field would take a beating, we’re very excited at the opportunity the FieldTurf surface provides us to both extend our season and add more events” stated Joliet Slammers General Manager, Heather Mills, adding “FieldTurf stood above all other artificial turf options given their experience in the industry and the impressive amount of Division I college baseball fields they’ve installed.”
FieldTurf is a leading choice amongst elite level baseball programs with installations at the University of Washington, the University of Oregon, the University of Texas, the University of Louisville, Texas Tech University, and Oregon State University.
This field is custom designed with tick marks to allow for easy painting of soccer and lacrosse lines. This allows for additional events to be scheduled by the municipality, maximizing their return on investment.
Staff of the local news platform, the Joliet Patch, were at the stadium during the unveiling to report on the stadium’s new FieldTurf surface and overheard a young man walking through the right field stands proclaiming "Holy smokes. This is impressive! This is the greenest grass in Joliet!"
