Texas Tech Replaces 11-Year-Old FieldTurf Field

The Texas Tech Red Raiders know how to find talent.

Back in 2006, the program unveiled their first FieldTurf surface and went on to upset the #1-ranked Texas Longhorns in 2008. In recent weeks, school officials confirmed they’re replacing the existing 11-year-old field at Jones AT&T Stadium with a new FieldTurf Classic HD system.

Director of Athletics Kirby Hocutt said the university is confident the new FieldTurf surface will contribute to the Red Raiders’ winning ways.

"We're looking forward to bringing a new turf to Jones AT&T Stadium," Hocutt said in a statement to the athletics department’s communication office. "We remain committed to providing the best facilities in the country for our student-athletes. This project is a significant investment in our student-athletes' safety and performance."

The Classic HD field will cover nearly 100,000 square feet and feature the Texas Tech double-T logo at midfield.

Texas Tech also opted for FieldTurf surfaces at their baseball stadium, soccer complex and several other practice fields.

AN INVESTMENT IN SAFETY

Keeping athletes safe has and will always be FieldTurf’s number one priority. Every day, the boundaries of research and innovation are pushed to engineer the most advanced artificial turf system in the industry.

While no sport can ever be completely injury-free, FieldTurf continues to find new ways to reduce the risk and severity of injuries. Multi-year, independent research validates these efforts to provide athletes and facility owners with the safest field possible.

CLASSIC HD: PREMIER PERFORMANCE

Classic HD uses slit-film yarn that strikes the perfect balance between durability and feel.

FieldTurf uses a mix of high-end polymer and UV stabilizers to create individual fibers that can withstand the pounding of an elite football program and blazing Texas summers.

Every Classic HD fiber features a thick design and precision cut pattern that make it an industry leader in reducing “splash,” which is what happens when granules from the infill system splashes up upon impact.

FieldTurf representatives say the field has earned the nickname “Beauty and the Beast” because it personifies strength while maintaining a beautiful, soft-to-the-touch appearance.

TEXAS TECH JOINS THE TEAM

When spring practices start this March, Texas Tech’s athletes will join thousands of other collegiate and professional competitors who practice and compete on a FieldTurf surface.

The Wisconsin Badgers chose the FieldTurf Classic HD as their turf system at Camp Randall Stadium. Like Texas Tech, the Badgers replaced after getting nine years out of their original FieldTurf field.

Classic HD is the same system installed at high profile venues such as Ford Field, Home of the Detroit Lions, TCF Bank Stadium – University of Minnesota, Ohio State University, Syracuse University and over 500 esteemed NCAA and elite high school facilities across North America and around the world.
