After “How much does it cost?”, the second most popular question when purchasing an artificial turf surface is “How long will it last?”. Unlike cost, the life of a synthetic surface isn’t a guaranteed number. Three ingredients; product, installer and maintenance, can significantly affect the life and performance of the field.

Texas Tech is seeing it first-hand. Their FieldTurf surface at Jones AT&T Stadium, original installed in 2006, is now in its 11th season and is still showcasing optimal safety and performance metrics.

“We had intentions of replacing it prior to this season." Said Texas Tech Athletic Director Kirby Hocutt, “Coach (Kliff) Kingsbury asked if we could postpone that project. He likes the speed at which this field plays, so we had FieldTurf come out and go through a number of Gmax testing, which measures the firmness, and a number of other safety-related metrics with this surface, and it’s still within standards.”
