Replacing Linfield Christian School’s 17-Year-Old FieldTurf, One of the Oldest in History

In 2004, Facebook was launched, the final episode of Friends aired on NBC, The Boston Red Sox won the World Series for the first time since 1918 and Linfield Christian School installed their current FieldTurf field. The school’s current installation will turn 17-years-old at the end of the month.

Located in Temecula, California, Linfield Christian School is a private, co-educational, college-preparatory K-12 Christian school located on a 100-acre campus. The institution was founded in 1936. School officials recently announced that the original FieldTurf field will be replaced by a new FieldTurf artificial turf surface in the coming months.

“Our program was more than thrilled with our first FieldTurf field” said Terry Cutter, Chief Financial Officer, Linfield Christian School. “How can you not be, with 17 years of life? The product’s durability has certainly impressed us, but what has truly stood out is how FieldTurf has partnered with us to maintain the field, plan our replacement and ensure we got the most value out of our field. Their service throughout the life of the field has been nothing short of extraordinary.”

The new synthetic turf installation will feature FieldTurf’s Vertex Prime system, part of the company’s Elite series. The system is comprised of specially designed slit-film fibers and high performance ridged monofilament fibers. The fibrillation process of the slit-film component allows for proper infill encapsulation while the monofilament fibers facilitate grass-like ball roll. As both fibers are tufted together in the same stitch, the system delivers a superior aesthetic appearance. The new installation will also feature CoolPlay, FieldTurf’s leading infill cooling technology.

Linfield Christian School’s new field is designed using FieldTurf’s heavyweight 3-layer infill system which has showcased a significant lower incidence of injuries per recent research by Michael C. Meyers, professor in Idaho State University’s Department of Sport Science and Physical Education.

Systems with >9 lbs. per square foot of infill compared to all other infill weight surfaces led to:

  • 19%-29% lower incidence of total injuries
  • 35%-55% lower incidence of substantial injuries
