The Trusted Surface of Michigan Stadium Since 2003

Michigan Stadium, a national sports landmark dubbed “The Big House”, is the largest stadium in the United States. First installed in 2003, replaced in 2010 and again recently in 2018, FieldTurf is proud to be the trusted artificial turf surface of the University of Michigan for the past 15 years.

"FieldTurf is thrilled to continue our long-standing relationship with the University of Michigan,” said FieldTurf President Eric Daliere. “We are excited to deliver our innovative and high performance synthetic playing surface to the players, coaches, and Michigan administration."

Home of the renowned Michigan Wolverines, the new surface has already made national headlines with the addition of newly designed blue end zones. The same maize letters will spell out “MICHIGAN” on both sides. A similar design has already been used at previous University of Michigan bowl games, including the 1998 Rose Bowl Game when Michigan won the National Title. The Wolverines will have to wait until the second week of the season for their home debut. They open the year versus the Fighting Irish at Notre Dame Stadium, which is also a FieldTurf installation.

The project was completed in collaboration with Chenango Contracting, a leading FieldTurf partner and construction expert from upstate New York. Together, FieldTurf and Chenango have installed numerous showcase facilities such as Notre Dame Stadium, the Carrier Dome, TCF Bank Stadium, Michie Stadium and now, Michigan Stadium.

Michigan officials opted to replace their surface with FieldTurf’s Revolution 360 system. Named after the concept of completeness, the Revolution 360 fiber features optimal durability, resilience and feel.

Other than Michigan Stadium, FieldTurf has become a fixture within Michigan athletics, being installed as the surface for the indoor (Oosterbaan Fieldhouse) and outdoor practice fields, the lacrosse field and the school’s intramural field. Glick Fieldhouse is scheduled to have new FieldTurf installed in 2019.

The University of Michigan joins an impressive list of current Revolution 360 users, including CenturyLink Field, home of the Seahawks & Sounders, Mercedes-Benz Stadium, home of the Falcons and United FC, the University of Iowa, Princeton University, the University of Texas at El Paso and the University of California, Berkeley.
