The wait is over. The first system designed specifically for softball has arrived. Meet FieldTurf TripleThreat, a NEW series offering two leading systems, TripleThreat Speed and TripleThreat Natural.
“We’re excited and proud to announce the launch of these new softball systems,” says Eric Daliere, FieldTurf’s president. “Our focus around the TripleThreat series was dedicated to helping develop the sport of softball and redefine home field advantage with innovative and high-performance surfaces.”
The creation of the TripleThreat surfaces required FieldTurf to push the boundaries of testing and product innovation further than ever before. These surfaces were developed by testing and analyzing some of the most elite clay, grass and turf facilities in the United States and evaluating such key factors as ball-surface interaction, speed and consistency. Through the use high-tech motion cameras, FieldTurf’s engineers interpreted the data as it relates to three critical performance criteria: ball speed, line and bounce. Over 300 research hours were dedicated to analyze over 250 videos and 60,000 photos. The results helped design a system that emulated the best performances.
Never before has there been a way to build your softball field with such precision. Coaches and field owners can opt for TripleThreat Speed to build a field that plays fast or TripleThreat Natural to replicate the play of a natural surface.

Positive Reviews
FieldTurf has long been a trusted choice amongst leading NCAA softball programs. Yale, Montana, Rutgers, North Georgia and North Dakota State all currently play on FieldTurf.
“It’s been a game-changer for us,” says Darren Mueller, head softball coach at NDSU. “Our field before wasn’t something we showed off to people, so this is a night-and-day difference. I like how every time I go to our field, it is ready to go. There is still maintenance and upkeep of the field, but not like what we had to do in the past.”
TripleThreat is especially effective in cold and rainy climates.
“Weather is one of our biggest challenges in the spring,” says Jen Goodwin, Yale’s head softball coach. “The number of cancellations we have had over the past few years has been unreal. The frost, the rain, the field prep … The turf will allow us to get on the field in February, and the drainage will assure us that no matter how much it rains overnight, we will be able to get onto our field the next day.”
