World Baseball Classic once again on FieldTurf

The World Baseball Classic is a unique tournament where professional players from around the world compete for their home county. This year, the tournament takes place in Japan, Taiwan, Puerto Rico, and the United States.

The Pool C first round matches were held in San Juan, Puerto Rico, at Hiram Bithorn Stadium. The FieldTurf surface at Hiram Bithorn Stadium has hosted multiple World Baseball Classic games over the years and continues to be the surface of choice for the world class tournament. This edition saw two powerhouses, the Dominican Republic and Puerto Rico, advance to the second round from this group.

Pool 1 second round matches are hosted in Tokyo, Japan at the infamous Tokyo Dome. This round will decide who will be advancing to the Championship round. The Tokyo Dome remains one of FieldTurf’s most high profile international installations and a premiere baseball facility in the world. This is the third straight edition of the World Baseball Classic with matches played at the Dome. The high performance FieldTurf system at Tokyo Dome was been carefully designed to emulate natural grass ballfields and enhance player-friendly playability, and has done so for many years.

FieldTurf is changing the way the baseball community perceives artificial turf – with its specialized turf systems driving surface innovation throughout every level of baseball. The surfaces are safe and offer consistent playability. Teams playing on FieldTurf are vocal about the benefits of the surface, helping them consistently gauge ball bounce, pace, and speed.

In addition to installations for the Miami Marlins, New York Mets and the Toronto Blue Jays, 40 NCAA D-1 baseball programs have chosen FieldTurf – including but not limited to – University of Texas, University of Oregon, University of New Mexico, Rutgers University, Washington State University, University of Washington, University of Louisville, University of Illinois, University of Cincinnati, Texas Tech University, Indiana State University, Kent State University, Cornell University, and Columbia University.
