Aggie’s latest installation provides practice facility with the same FieldTurf system as Maverick Stadium
In anticipation of the upcoming college football season, Utah State University has selected the elite FieldTurf Vertex CORE system for its new surface at the Stan Laub Athletic Training Center in Logan, UT. The decision to upgrade to Vertex CORE reinforces an already strong relationship between the NCAA Division I school and the world-renowned surface provider.
In addition to Utah State’s Aggies football team, the Stan Laub Athletic Training Center is also used by the school’s soccer, softball, and track and field teams. The installation is the latest in a series of game-changing replacement projects that have taken place over the last few years, where Utah State has continued to show its trust in FieldTurf to provide the best solutions to enhance its facilities.
In May 2022, the Aggies chose the same FieldTurf Vertex CORE for the surface replacement at Merlin Olsen Field at Maverick Stadium - the football program’s home venue. The installation made Utah the seventh Mountain West Conference team to include FieldTurf as part of its football facilities, joining the following programs:
- Boise State
- Air Force
- New Mexico
- Wyoming
- San Diego State (Practice Field)
- Nevada (Practice Field)
The same year, over 98,000 square feet of FieldTurf was installed at Aggies Legacy Field, which is used primarily for intramural sports, club sports, and open recreation. Finally, last July, the FieldTurf TripleThreat system was installed at LaRee and LeGrand Johnson Field, where Utah’s softball team plays its games.
“We once again thank the Aggies for their trust in us to provide the safest and best-performing product in the industry. We look forward to taking care of them for years to come here in the Mountain Region,” said Jed Easterbrook, Regional VP FieldTurf/Tarkett Sports.

Trusted at the Highest Level
With FieldTurf Vertex CORE at their game field and practice facility, the Aggies have embraced a solution that is trusted at the highest levels of play. The same FieldTurf system is used at Bank of America Stadium, the home of the Carolina Panthers (NFL) and Charlotte FC (MLS). It’s also known for hosting top-tier college football action, including the Duke’s Mayo Bowl since 2002 and the ACC Championship Game since 2017.
Utah State’s new Vertex CORE was designed to deliver the perfect combination of performance and beauty. Equipped with two legendary FieldTurf fibers, the Classic HD slit-film fiber and the CORE monofilament super fiber, the system delivers leading agility, durability, and aesthetics. Vertex CORE demonstrates FieldTurf’s unwavering dedication to quality and strive to Change the Game.
Vertex CORE is designed using FieldTurf’s heavyweight 3-layer infill technology, which has shown a significantly lower incidence of injuries per research by Michael C. Meyers, a Professor in the Department of Sport Science and Physical Education at Idaho State University.
Utah State’s first game of 2025, which will also be their home opener, is still three months away. As the day approaches, seeing the Aggies prepare for top competition on their tandem of top FieldTurf surfaces will make for an exciting lead-up to the regular season.
